| Beschrijving keerzijde | Youthful Dionysus, nude, standing and facing left in a biga drawn by two female panthers advancing left. The god holds a long thyrsus in his raised hand, his figure conveying dynamic forward motion consistent with Dionysiac imagery on Cyzicene civic bronzes. Behind the biga, Pan strides left, playing the syrinx (pipes) and carrying a pedum (shepherd's crook). The composition reflects the rich mythological repertoire favoured by the neokorate city of Cyzicus during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. |
