| Reverse description | Octastyle temple set upon a podium with three steps, depicted in careful frontal elevation characteristic of Ephesian civic coinage. Within the intercolumniation stands the cult statue of Artemis Ephesia flanked by her supports (stags or supporters). The columns are of Ionic order with elaborately decorated bases. The pediment is populated with four sculptural figures: two reclining figures in the corners and two standing female figures flanking the central acroterion, each with one arm raised toward the tympanum and one lowered. The legend ΕΦ-ΕϹ/ΙΩ-Ν appears divided in the left and right fields, while ΔΙϹ ΝΕΩΚΟ/ΡΩΝ occupies the exergue, proclaiming Ephesus as twice neocorate. |
