| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed three-quarters from the rear in the provincial Greek style. The emperor's youthful effigy is rendered with pauldrons visible over the cuirass, with drapery gathered at the left shoulder. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust in the field, reading from upper left to right. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the mid-third century AD. |

| Reverse description | Heracles standing in three-quarter view facing right, his weight shifted onto his right side, with his right arm resting upon a club that stands upright on a small rectangular base. His left arm is bent at the elbow and rests upon his hip in a relaxed contrapposto stance. The Nemean lion skin is draped over his left shoulder and arm, serving as a canonical Heraclean attribute. A Greek civic legend in two lines or surrounding the field identifies the issuing city of Hypaepa and names the presiding strategos. |
