| Reverse description | The reverse presents a homonoia type uniting the cults of Ephesus and Alexandria. At left, the iconic cult statue of Artemis Ephesia stands facing, depicted in the traditional xoanon form with supports at her sides and flanked by two stags. At right, Sarapis is shown seated facing, his right hand raised in a gesture of benediction while his left holds a long sceptre; at his feet crouches Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld. The composition embodies the religious concordia between the two great cities, expressed through the juxtaposition of their principal deities. The reverse legend arcs around the field in Greek, proclaiming the concord between the Ephesians and the Alexandrians. |
