| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, presented frontally with considerable three-quarter perspective. The imperial cuirass is adorned with an eagle in relief, a hallmark of the military portrait type employed at Heraclea Pontica. The encircling obverse legend is rendered in Greek characters. The overall style is characteristic of the provincial bronze coinage of the mid-third century AD. |
