| Obverse description | Draped bust of Furia Sabinia Tranquillina, Empress and wife of Gordian III, facing right, wearing a diadem. The portrait is rendered in the provincial Roman style typical of Pontic civic coinage of the mid-third century AD. The Greek legend encircles the effigy in the field, identifying the empress by her full imperial titulature. The flan is broad and irregular, characteristic of the large bronze issues of Amisus. |
