Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing left, presented in three-quarter frontal view; the cuirass is adorned with a gorgoneion at the centre. The emperor raises his right hand in a gesture of address and holds a globe in his left. The surrounding legend reads ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥΓ in Greek characters, denoting his imperial titulature.
