| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two divine figures flank the field in a homonoia composition celebrating the concord between Pergamum and Ephesus. To the left, Asclepius stands facing right with head turned left, his right hand resting upon his attribute, the knotted staff entwined by a serpent. To the right, the cult statue of Ephesian Artemis (Artemis Ephesia) is depicted en face in the canonical xoanon form, with multiple rows of supernumerary breasts, flanking supports, and the stiff, pillar-like lower body characteristic of the goddess's sacred image at Ephesus. The reverse legend surrounds both figures, naming the presiding magistrate and the issuing cities. |
