| 表面の説明 | Laureate bust of Emperor Commodus right, with long beard, draped in paludamentum and cuirass, seen from the front in three-quarter view. The portrait reflects the mature, heavily bearded iconography characteristic of Commodus's later reign. The imperial titulature appears in Greek characters as a encircling legend within the field. |

Samos operated under the conventus system of Roman provincial administration, with its coinage answering ultimately to the proconsul at Ephesus rather than any local monetary authority. The island's bronze issues of the Commodan period reflect a civic economy still trading on its ancient prestige — Samos had leveraged its cult of Hera and its philosophical associations for centuries of Roman favor. Commodus's prolonged reign gave provincial mints an unusually stable window; his damnatio memoriae after 192 AD left some provincial bronzes in an awkward position, though enforcement of erasure was inconsistent in the eastern conventus.
