| Reverse description | Zeus Laodiceus depicted standing in full figure, turned to the left, draped in a long himation that falls in deeply modelled folds to his feet. In his outstretched right hand he holds an eagle, the bird of his divine authority, while his left hand rests on a tall sceptre. The deity stands on a low base or ground line, and the civic legend of Laodicea, proclaiming the city's status as neokoros for the 88th time (ΤΟ ΠΗ), encircles the type in the border. The composition reflects the well-established iconographic tradition of Zeus Laodiceus as the principal cult deity of the city. |
