| Reverse description | Zeus Laodiceus, the principal civic deity of Laodicea ad Lycum, depicted standing left in a long chiton and himation, extending his right hand to hold an eagle and grasping a tall sceptre in his left hand. The figure is rendered in the classical Hellenistic tradition characteristic of Phrygian civic coinage of the Severan period. The encircling legend proclaims the city's neokorate status and records the civic era date ΤΟ ΠΗ (year 88), corresponding to 216–217 AD. The design is framed by a beaded border. |
