| Obverse description | Draped bust of the personified Roman Senate (Senatus), rendered with youthful features, facing left. The effigy is depicted in the Hellenistic civic tradition characteristic of Phrygian provincial coinage, with the drapery rendered in low relief across the shoulder. The circular legend ΙΕΡΑ ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ ('Holy Senate') surrounds the bust within a beaded border. The portrait conveys an idealized, almost divine quality befitting the honorific personification of the Senate as an institutional deity. The flan is broad and somewhat irregular, consistent with the large-module civic bronzes issued at Laodicea ad Lycum during the Antonine period. |
