| Beschrijving keerzijde | Harpocrates, depicted with the lower body of a crocodile, stands facing left in a syncretic Egyptianizing composition. He wears the pschent (double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt), raises his right hand to his mouth in the characteristic gesture of childhood and silence, and cradles a cornucopia in his left arm. The figure is flanked by two bases adorned with garlands: on the foreground base stands a hydria, while the base behind supports a five-columned temple whose frieze is decorated with a row of uraei. The scene reflects the blending of Greco-Roman and Egyptian religious iconography typical of Alexandrian provincial coinage. |
