The effigy presents the emperor in a heroic, semi-nude manner consistent with Alexandrian civic coinage of the period. | Beschrijving keerzijde | The sun god Helios, radiate and in divine splendor, drives a galloping quadriga to the right, depicted in dynamic motion with the four horses shown in full stride. Above the quadriga, a small unidentified object is depicted being carried or supported by two birds, likely eagles, an unusual and iconographically distinctive element. The composition reflects the syncretic Greco-Egyptian religious tradition of Alexandria, where Helios was closely associated with solar and regal power. The regnal date appears in the field. |
