Attuda was a small Phrygian city of no great political weight, but its civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader rush among Asian municipalities to court the new Julio-Severan dynasty after the civil wars of 193 AD. The magistrate name preserved in the obverse legend — Sythikos — is otherwise sparsely attested, making this piece a minor but genuine contribution to the prosopography of Roman provincial administration in Phrygia.
The conventus of Alabanda, to which Attuda belonged for judicial and administrative purposes, produced a remarkable variety of civic bronzes across this period, yet Attuda's output remains among the thinner series catalogued from the region.
