| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Septimius Severus facing right, seen from the rear, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of Carian civic coinage. The portrait displays the emperor's characteristic beard and laureate wreath. The encircling legend in Greek characters names the emperor with his full imperial titulature. The bust presents a three-quarter rear view, a composition occasionally employed in eastern provincial mints of the Severan period. |

Trapezopolis was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage depended entirely on the patronage of local magistrates willing to finance issues from their own resources — the magistrate named in this legend, Titus Claudius Adrastos, identifies himself with the rare title indicating he held the office through hereditary succession from his father, an unusual declaration of dynastic civic authority that appears on only a handful of known provincial bronzes from the region.
