The magistrate name preserved in the legend — Onesimos — places this issue within a documented series of civic bronzes struck at Magnesia ad Maeandrum during the joint reign of Septimius Severus and his sons, when the emperor's eastern tour of 202–203 AD prompted a surge of loyalist coinage across Ionian cities eager to advertise their imperial connections. Magnesia's mint was active but modest; large module bronzes of this size were reserved for occasions of civic or imperial significance rather than routine circulation.
