| 表面の説明 | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I (the Arab) facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear, a presentation typical of mid-third century provincial coinage of Asia Minor. The imperial effigy displays paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and segmented cuirass, conveying both civic and military authority. The encircling Greek legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The portrait exhibits the bold, somewhat schematic modelling characteristic of eastern provincial die-cutters of the Severan and post-Severan tradition. |

Erythrae, a coastal city on the western tip of the Çeşme peninsula, held the Sibylline oracle as its chief civic pride — the Erythraean Sibyl was among the most cited in antiquity, and the city leveraged that religious prestige aggressively on its bronze coinage under the Roman provincial system. Philip I's reign saw a brief but intense surge in provincial bronze production across the Conventus of Smyrna, partly to fund civic construction and local cult activity during a period when central imperial silver was being debased at an accelerating rate. The magistrate name Hekataios recorded here places this issue within a dateable sequence of Erythraean civic bronzes.
