Behind him stands Demeter, facing front with head turned to the left, holding ears of grain and a long vertical sceptre. The composition occupies the full reverse field, demonstrating the sophisticated multi-figure iconographic program favored by Pontic provincial mints. The reverse legend, partially retrograde, is distributed around the periphery and incorporates a civic era date (year 368 of the Amisene era, corresponding to 235–236 CE). The overall style reflects Hellenistic artistic traditions maintained in the provincial coinage of Amisus. |
