| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius facing right, depicted with a characteristically thin face and long beard, wearing a cuirass with traces of drapery over the left shoulder, rendered in the three-quarter frontal convention typical of later Antonine provincial coinage. The portrait reflects the mature, philosophically austere likeness of the emperor as established in official Roman iconography of the 170s AD. The encircling legend in Greek reads ΑΥ ΚΑΙ Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝοϹ, with the omega rendered in the local closed arch (∩) form characteristic of Lydian mint practice. |
