背面描述 The reverse depicts the Trojan hero Aeneas advancing to the right, his head turned back to the left, carrying on his shoulder the aged Anchises who gazes leftward, while leading his young son Ascanius by the hand — a celebrated mythological scene evoking the foundation legend of Rome and the colony's Julio-Claudian heritage. The figures are rendered in the bold, somewhat schematic relief characteristic of provincial bronze coinage of the Severan period. The colonial legend COL IVL CONC APAM AVG D D is distributed around the field, asserting the status of Apamea as a Roman colony acting by decree of its local senate.

附加信息

Macrinus ruled for just over a year before being defeated by Elagabalus's forces at the Battle of Antioch in June 218 — one of the shortest reigns among the soldier-emperors. Provincial civic bronzes like this Apamean issue are among the few material records of his tenure, since the central mints had barely enough time to establish consistent output before his execution. Apamea in Bithynia struck coins under the formula of a colonial grant, the COL IVL CONC legend acknowledging its status as a Colonia Iulia Concordia.
