| Reverse description | The reverse presents a homonoia type celebrating the civic concord between Ephesus and Alexandria. The xoanon (cult statue) of Artemis Ephesia stands facing, depicted in the canonical polymastos form with multiple breast ornaments and a polos crown, flanked by stag supporters. To her left stands Sarapis, erect and facing left, his right hand raised in greeting and his left holding a long sceptre, wearing his characteristic modius headdress. Both figures are set upon a galley rendered in profile, with a visible row of oars along the hull, symbolising the maritime connection between the two great cities. The legend in two lines encircles the field. |
