| Descrizione del dritto | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, depicted from the rear in the distinctive three-quarter back view characteristic of eastern provincial issues. The emperor wears a radiate laurel wreath and elaborate military cuirass with visible pteruges, while the paludamentum drapes over the left shoulder. The bust is rendered in a bold, high-relief provincial style typical of Carian workshops of the early third century AD. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥ ΚΑΙ Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his official titulature as Caesar Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. |
