The obverse legend is inscribed in Greek around the bust, identifying the emperor as Marcus Aurelius Commodus Caesar. The lettering features alpha characters with curved crossbars, noted as tooled. The portrait style is consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the early reign of Commodus, executed with a high-relief provincial die. |
