She holds in her extended hands a small tetrastyle or octastyle temple model, symbolising Nicomedia's proud status as a twice-neokoros city — an honour granted for maintaining an imperial cult temple. The reverse legend encircling the design proclaims the civic title of Nicomedia. The composition reflects the prestige iconography typical of Bithynian provincial bronze coinage of the Antonine period. |
