| Aanvullende informatie |
Nacolea was a minor Phrygian city whose civic coinage under Caracalla reflects the intense local competition for imperial favor during his reign. Cities across Asia Minor spent lavishly on bronze issues honoring the emperor — partly ritual obligation, partly lobbying. Nacolea's output was modest by regional standards, which is why well-preserved civic bronzes from this mint surface infrequently in the trade.
The ethnic form ΝΑΚΟΛΕΩΝ in the genitive plural is the standard epichoric spelling attested on coins of this mint, distinguishing it from variant transliterations found in literary sources.
