Year eight of Antoninus Pius's reign — the regnal year encoded in the Greek date formula on these Alexandrian bronzes — fell during one of the most administratively stable periods of Roman Egypt. The Alexandria mint produced large civic bronzes throughout his reign with remarkable consistency, though the dies were cut locally and vary considerably in execution quality. This particular reference, Dattari-Savio IV.4#736, places it within a well-documented sequence, but survivors in decent condition are not abundant given the corrosive Nile Delta soil that claimed most Egyptian bronze coinage.
