Year eight of Antoninus Pius's reign — rendered as L Η in Alexandrian dating convention — places this issue squarely within the most stable and prosperous decade of his twenty-three-year rule. The Alexandria mint operated under Roman prefectural authority but retained its own regnal year system, producing a distinct bronze coinage entirely separate from Rome's output. Alexandrian bronzes of this size circulated within Egypt only; export was effectively prohibited under Roman monetary policy, which kept the provincial coinage isolated from the imperial system.
