Reverse description A tetrastyle or distyle temple facade depicted in frontal view, framed by two columns supporting an entablature and pediment, with a circular disk or solar symbol set within the tympanum. The intercolumniation encloses a standing figure of Elpis (Hope), shown facing left, raising her right hand and holding a flower or plant in her left hand, in the canonical iconographic pose for this deity. The date regnal legend L Ε appears in the field, identifying the coin as struck in the fifth year of Antoninus Pius's reign. The overall composition is characteristic of Alexandrian civic coinage celebrating local religious iconography. Extensive patination covers the reverse surface.
