Obverse description Bare-shouldered, laureate bust of Antoninus Pius facing right, rendered in the typical Alexandrian provincial style with bold, slightly stylized facial features and layered laurel wreath. The emperor's beard is rendered in short, curling locks characteristic of his portraiture. A partial Greek legend runs along the periphery, largely off-flan due to the irregular striking, reading in part ] Τ ΑΙΛ ΑΔΡ ΑΝΤ[, abbreviating the imperial titulature Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus. The flan is notably thick and irregular, consistent with Alexandrian bronze coinage of the mid-second century.
