Reverse description An eagle in full flight, wings spread, moving to the left, its talons clutching a bone or wreath above a lighted altar depicted in the lower field. The composition is a well-known motif in Phrygian civic coinage, symbolizing divine favor and sacrificial piety. The dedicatory Greek legend, naming the local magistrate Attalos as the benefactor (agonothetes) who dedicated this issue at Laodicea, is distributed around the field and within the legend border.
