| Beschrijving keerzijde | Pelops and Hippodameia standing together in a right-facing biga drawn by two horses, their right hands clasped in a dextrarum iunctio symbolising their legendary union. Pelops holds a long sceptre in his left hand, while Hippodameia stands beside him in flowing robes. The scene alludes to the mythological chariot race at Olympia in which Pelops won Hippodameia's hand from King Oenomaus. A dedicatory inscription in Greek surrounds the type, recording the gift of the local strategos Theudioanos to the people of Smyrna. |
