| Obverse description | Laureate bust of the emperor Trajan facing right, depicted nude with an aegis draped over the left shoulder, a distinctive attribute combining imperial and divine iconography characteristic of Alexandrian provincial coinage. The portrait presents the emperor's characteristic strong features in high relief, with the radiate laurel wreath rendered in the Hellenistic tradition of Egyptian Roman issues. The encircling Greek legend names the emperor with his titles in the nominative form. The flan is irregularly shaped, as is typical of hand-struck provincial bronze coinage of this period. |
