| Reverse description | Zeus reclines upon the back of a large eagle striding to the left, his figure semi-draped, holding a thunderbolt in his outstretched hand. The composition is a distinctive Alexandrian type associating imperial authority with the chief Olympian deity. The eagle's wings are spread prominently, filling much of the reverse field. The date regnal legend appears in the field, rendered in Greek numerals. The style reflects the bold, somewhat schematic engraving characteristic of Alexandrian bronze coinage of the Trajanic period. |
