| Reverse description | Nilus, the personification of the River Nile, reclines to the left upon a hippopotamus, holding a reed in one hand and a cornucopia in the other. A genius figure is shown in association with the deity, and a nilometer — the graduated column used to measure the annual Nile inundation — may also be present in the field. The composition is characteristic of Alexandrian provincial coinage celebrating Egypt's agricultural fertility. The date regnal legend L ΙΘ (Year 19) appears in the field. The coin is heavily patinated and corroded, obscuring fine detail. |
