| Reverse description | The Emperor Trajan, laureate and clad in military dress, stands facing left, extending a patera in his right hand and holding a sceptre or spear in his left. To his right stands a female figure identified as the personification of Alexandria, also facing left, holding a sceptre. The date regnal formula L ΙΗ (Year 18) appears in the field, corresponding to the eighteenth year of Trajan's reign. The composition follows a standard Alexandrian provincial type celebrating imperial munificence and the bond between emperor and city. |
