Additional information

Year 18 of Trajan's reign corresponds to 114–115 AD, the period immediately preceding his Parthian campaign — one of the most ambitious military undertakings in Roman imperial history. The Alexandrian mint was among the most prolific provincial operations in the empire, running a parallel dating system based on regnal years rather than Roman consular dates, which is why the ΛΗ (year 18) designation appears rather than any consular reference.

Egyptian provincial bronzes of this size were struck on a flan standard peculiar to Alexandria and did not circulate outside Egypt under normal conditions.
