Year 13 of Trajan's reign — 109/110 AD — places this issue squarely in the period when Alexandria's mint was producing at high volume to support Roman administrative and military demands in Egypt. The Alexandrian bronze series operated under a closed currency system: Egyptian coinage could not legally circulate outside the province, and foreign coin had to be exchanged upon entry, a policy that made the Alexandria mint effectively a monopoly operation within its own borders.
