Reverse description Two deities stand facing one another in the field: Asclepius, depicted facing front at centre, holding his serpent-entwined staff (the rod of Asclepius) in his right hand, and Hermes standing to the left, holding a purse in his extended right hand and a caduceus in his left. The composition reflects Pergamum's celebrated religious associations with the healing god Asclepius and its commercial prominence under Hermes' patronage. A multi-line Greek legend encircles the scene, referencing the presiding strategos and the city's triple neocorate status.
