Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of the emperor Septimius Severus facing right, depicted from the rear in the so-called heroic three-quarter perspective, a characteristic treatment seen in eastern provincial coinage of this period. The emperor's laureate wreath is rendered with fine detail, and the paludamentum and cuirass are visible on the truncation. The obverse legend runs partially around the periphery of the field, identifying the emperor with his imperial titulature in Greek script.
