To her right, the emperor, laureate and wearing a toga, stands facing with head turned left, holding a small figure of Nike (Victory) in his extended right hand. At the emperor's feet, a small male figure wearing a high cap kneels to the right in an attitude of submission or homage, symbolising Roman dominion over a foreign people. The composition reflects the imperial ideology of conquest and divine favour characteristic of Alexandrian bronze coinage of the Antonine period. |
