| Obverse lettering | Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙ(ΟΝ) ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟΝ ϹΕ (Translation: for Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus) |
| Reverse description | Roma, helmeted and draped, stands facing at left with head turned to right, holding a parazonium in her left hand and extending a wreath in her raised right hand. To her right, the emperor, laureate and wearing a toga, stands facing with head turned left, holding a small figure of Nike (Victory) in his extended right hand. At the emperor's feet, a small male figure wearing a high cap kneels to the right in an attitude of submission or homage, symbolising Roman dominion over a foreign people. The composition reflects the imperial ideology of conquest and divine favour characteristic of Alexandrian bronze coinage of the Antonine period. |
