背面描述 The emperor Marcus Aurelius, bearded, depicted in full military attire including paludamentum, stands facing with head turned to the right, holding a spear in his left hand and a sword at his side. To his right, Nike (Victory) stands facing left, extending her right arm to crown the emperor while holding a palm branch in her left hand. The composition celebrates imperial military virtue and divine favour under the magistracy named in the encircling legend, consistent with the neokorate status of Cyzicus.

附加信息

Cyzicus held the title of neokoros — temple warden of the imperial cult — a status awarded by Rome and fiercely contested among rival cities of Asia Minor. The city had been granted this honor under Hadrian, and coins invoking it, as this issue does, were almost certainly produced for circulation during festival periods tied to imperial cult observances rather than for routine commercial exchange. The magistrate named in the legend, Tiberius Claudius Severus, is attested across several Cyzicene bronze issues of the Antonine period, helping anchor the emission to the early 170s.
