The regnal year designation on this piece — year 19 of Hadrian's reign — places it squarely within his celebrated tour of Egypt in 130–131 AD, a visit that electrified Alexandrian mint output for years afterward. Hadrian arrived with his court, witnessed the vocal Colossi of Memnon, and lost his companion Antinous to the Nile that same season. The mint's elevated production in the years immediately following reflects both imperial attention and the administrative disruption of the new city, Antinoöpolis, founded in the drowned youth's honor upstream.
