| Reverse description | The god Nilus reclines to the left, his mature, bearded figure rendered in the characteristic Alexandrian idiom. He holds a tall cornucopia in his left arm, symbolic of the river's fertile bounty, and a reed or sceptre in his right hand. Beneath the figure, a crocodile or hippopotamus is depicted, emblematic of the Nile's fauna and the abundance of Egypt. The regnal date ΙϚ (year 16) appears above in the field, while the legend L ΔΩΔΕΚ(Α) at the periphery confirms the twelfth Egyptian regnal year of Hadrian's reign. |
