| Beschrijving keerzijde | The personification of Nilus reclines in left profile upon a crocodile, the emblematic beast of the Nile, evoking the river's divine and fertile nature central to Egyptian identity. The god is depicted holding a long reed or sceptre in one hand and a cornucopia overflowing with produce in the other, symbolising abundance and the annual inundation. The composition is rendered in a confident, if somewhat worn, Alexandrian provincial style with good relief visible despite heavy patination. The regnal date legend appears in the upper left field. The flan is irregular with several edge breaks and areas of green cuprite patina. |
