(Translation: Emperor Caesar Trajan Hadrian Augustus)
Reverse description A kalathos (sacred basket associated with Serapis and the abundance of Egypt) is depicted mounted upon a biga-style chariot drawn by two serpents moving to the left, evoking the chthonic and divine imagery central to Alexandrian religious iconography. The two serpents are rendered in sinuous, intertwining forms characteristic of Ptolemaic and Roman-period Egyptian religious art. The date regnal formula appears in the field, confirming the issue to the sixth year of Hadrian's reign.
