| Beschrijving keerzijde | Athena, helmeted and draped, seated to the left upon a large shield, her figure occupying the central field of the flan. She holds a long spear upright in her left hand and extends a small figure of Nike in her right hand, the latter symbol of victory reinforcing the martial iconography of the type. The surrounding legend, contained within a dotted border, identifies the issuing civic authority. The composition reflects the high artistic ambitions of provincial bronzes struck at Bithynium-Claudiopolis during the Severan period. |
