The empress is depicted wearing a chiton with visible drapery folds at the truncation, rendered in the refined portraiture style characteristic of the Mytilenean mint. A beaded border frames the field, with the magistrate's dedicatory legend distributed around the periphery. The reverse identifies the issuing authority through the name of the local strategos Apelles, grandson of Menemachos, situating the coin firmly within the civic coinage tradition of Mytilene on Lesbos. |
