Reverse description A bearded male figure, identified tentatively as the founding hero Leukippos or Themistocles, seated frontally on an elaborate throne. The figure extends his right hand to rest upon the upper rim of a large round shield propped against a column at his right side, while his left hand rests upon the hilt of a sheathed sword at his hip. The shield bears an inscription in the field. A multi-part Greek legend distributed across the reverse field and on the shield identifies the local magistrate responsible for the coin's issue and the civic authority of Magnesia.
